Review: Spot and Tango UnKibble

Last updated on:

With so many options on the market today, it can be really hard to find the best food for your dog. Spot and Tango is looking to make that simple with delicious, nutritious, and convenient food for your pets.

About Spot and Tango:

Spot and Tango is based on the idea that your pet should be able to eat the best food available without the hassle of home cooking meals or weekly pet store visits. All of their food is made with USDA human-grade ingredients that have been specially formulated by veterinary nutritionists, so you can rest assured that your dog is getting the best.

What started out as a home cooking kitchen operation by the founders of Spot and Tango has now become an online empire that delivers quality to your doorstep. The convenience of their delivery service, especially during these times that we live in, makes it a safer and easier way for many people to get their dog’s food.

About Spot and Tango’s UnKibble and Fresh Foods:

Spot and Tango offers two options: Fresh and UnKibble.

Fresh is exactly as it sounds: food made from the freshest ingredients and with the least amount of processing possible. The Fresh option comes in Turkey, Beef, or Lamb.

Spot and Tango’s Fresh Food must be kept frozen and thawed either the night before in the refrigerator or in lukewarm water. Though it requires a bit more effort to prepare, if you’re interested in feeding your dog food in the most natural state possible, this is a great option! Check out this great review for more info on their Fresh option.

UnKibble is the best option for those wanting a quick food that still offers your dog excellent food without the preparation required for their fresh food. UnKibble is made by gently drying the ingredients at a low temp to create a soft food that retains its flavor. There is a Duck and Salmon, Chicken, and Beef flavor.

To make sure you are getting the best option for your dog, you can take a quiz to personalize food especially for your pup. Spot and Tango will make recommendations based on your dog’s size, breed, age, flavor preferences, and more.

As a bonus, they send you with a premade scoop for the UnKibble and pre-portioned packages for the Fresh so you can feed your dog the perfect amount every time!

My Thoughts on Spot and Tango:

Peanut and I tested the UnKibble. I was unsure at first, as I am most foods for Peanut, since he is the PICKIEST dog in the world. He has turned his nose up to expensive kibbles and wet foods alike and so finding a food he likes is huge.

I was really shocked and pleased when he gobbled Spot and Tango’s UnKibble up! I mixed it in with his regular food just so I wouldn’t upset his stomach, and he ate it all!

Well, almost all of it. There are some green beans and cranberries and sweet potatoes that are left whole in the food which my dog, picky as he is, decided to leave behind. But other than that he really enjoys the UnKibble.

Peanut has sensitive teeth and UnKibble is the first shelf stable kibble I have found that is soft and gentle on his teeth. An unopened bag can last up to 12 months and once opened you have 3-4 weeks.

After two weeks on the food, Peanut has more energy and I have found his skin is less flaky and dry. The lack of artificial ingredients and preservatives, just whole food pure and simple, has made a real difference.

What I Love About UnKibble:

If you are nervous about things like packaging waste, which I hate, or ordering too much or too little food, Spot and Tango takes the stress out of it. Their packaging is made from compostable and/or recyclable materials. Since your plan is customized for your pet they take the guesswork out of finding the right amount of food for your dog.

Food ships for free with two day shipping in the US. The UnKibble definitely requires less packaging than Fresh, if that is important to you.

It’s nice to know I am getting a quality product that my dog loves from people that really do care about the health and wellness of animals.

What I Would Change:

While you are paying for a quality product, the food can be pricey for those with big dogs or multiple dogs. For my 16 lb dog, the price starts at $2.09/day for UnKibble and $3.99/day for Fresh.

That can add up really quickly. As I do with many foods that I love but can’t afford to feed my dog fulltime, I mix them in with his other food. This stretches out how long the bag lasts while still giving my dog a dose of extra delicious nutritious goodness.

Overall Impressions:

I think Spot and Tango’s UnKibble is a worthy dog food that really puts your pet’s health and enjoyment first. It is one thing for a food to be nutritious, but when a company goes the extra step to make a food that all dogs (including picky ones like mine) enjoy, I really appreciate it.

Though expensive, you can get your first order for 20% off at Spot and Tango’s website and I would definitely say it is a food that is worth giving a try, especially if your dog is picky, has skin conditions, or other ailments that may be caused by their diet.
