1. My Alpha Pet Compostable Dog Bags

Think about how many times your dog poops in a day. Now multiply that by the number of days in a year and you can see poop bags add up really quickly! Don’t just add more plastic to the landfill that will sit there for ages. Check out this review for a more in depth look at this bag.

Try a compostable dog bag like My Alpha Pet Compostable Dog Bag. These can even be composted in your backyard! But only use compost for non-edible things like trees and flowers.

Keep in mind that to be compostable it needs to be in the right environment, so tossing a compostable bag (even if it is made of more environmentally friendly materials) might not break down in a landfill. Check with your city to see if they have industrial facilities you can bring a bag to if you don’t have a backyard compost.

  • Key features:
    • Compostable in industrial and backyard facilities.
    • Thick bag to prevent leakage.
    • Dog dispenser compatible.
  • Price: $

 3. Jiminy’s Cricket Treats

Cricket dog treats?! Sounds crazy but it is actually an incredibly cool concept and a big hit with the dogs.

These treats use crickets as their main source of protein. Crickets are not only more environmentally friendly than traditional proteins like beef and chicken, they carry fewer pathogens, are hypoallergenic, and live out most of their natural lifespan before being humanely harvested.

If you want a treat that your dog will love but has a much smaller carbon footprint, check out Jiminy’s amazing line of treats. They have crunchy treats, soft treats, and kibble, too!

Price: $

 4. Eco Gloves

Ideal for any mess, these Eco Gloves are your germ barrier for everything from picking up dog poop to cleaning the bathroom.

  • Key features:
    • Gloves and individual packet packaging are compostable.
    • Made from annually renewable sources like corn.
    • Convenient and easy to pack
    • Multi-use.
  • Price: $

I will make a caveat, though. I do love these gloves, but my dog is 15 pounds. Anyone with a dog much bigger than that may have a hard time using these.

But for the little dog owners in your life, these are perfect! You can buy in compostable, individually wrapped packages for convenience, or in bulk boxes to cut down on packaging. Check out this review for more info.

5. Native Pet Products

The Native Pet motto is simple…Keep it Simple! Treats should have limited ingredients, be good for your dog, and taste delicious!

  • Key features:
    • Powders to keep your dog’s stool regular.
    • Organic ingredients
    • High protein chews that help prevent tartar and plaque buildup.
  • Price: Starting at $

Find it on Native Pet.

6. Marsh Dog Wild Nutria Treats

Another wild treat for the books, Marsh Dog treats are made with Wild Nutria. This invasive species has been devastating wetlands in Louisiana. They consume a football field’s worth of vegetation every hour!

To combat this problem, Marsh Dog is creating treats that support conservation and utilize a readily available meat: Nutria! These are high in protein and don’t have fillers like corn and soy. Learn more about why we love these treats here.

  • Try their three great flavors:
    • Blueberry
    • Brown Rice and Sweet Potato
    • Cranberry
  • Price: $

Find them on Marsh Dog.
